This is the website for Joel Longard's music. Born in British Columbia, Canada, Joel Longard moved at an early age to a veritable hotbed of stereotypical country music: rural Alberta, Canada. Resisting the twangy vibes of the western scene, Longard developed an early interest in classic and progressive rock music. As his student career progressed, he moved to the metropolitan center Edmonton, a breeding ground for the cold post-modern rock movement. This cold influence can be heard in his otherwise very European tracks, adding a fascinating air of uniqueness to this Canadian musician.

As part of my Education degree from the Uni, I'm doing some student teaching right now. So I'm not in my home city, but instead teaching junior high students a couple hundred kilometers away. Still working on those promised new songs; one's coming along nicely.

New look for the website! I've got a lot of work out of the way on University stuff, but there's still lots to go. However, I've got a couple songs that I'm working on, including a new composition and an old dance cover. I've also cleaned up the list of songs in the music player. I removed some that I felt were substandard, so the few that remain are my favorites.

Well, it's been a while. There's a new song uploaded, called Defining Through Misery. If you don't know what that means, just google it and then you might figure out what the entire song is about ;) I've also got another song that I'm working on ATM.

I've been working on some stuff, but it's a ways from being finished. With exams and basketball at the moment, I'm pretty busy.

It's been quite a while since I've done any updates here. But today I've uploaded a new song, which I wrote AGES ago but never finished. Today it came up on my iPod in the unfinished version, and I thought I'd better FINALLY get it done. So I hope you enjoy Rhyme And Reason

I've re-uploaded Call To Arms. I just wasn't satasfied with the vocal work on the verses, so I rerecorded them, and I'm somewhat happier now. The mix sounds very slightly different now, but those who downloaded the earlier version may not notice any difference. In other, unrelated, news, I'm not regrowing my beard like I said I would. It looks fine off for now.

The song that I mentioned I was writing is finished and uploaded! "Call To Arms" is dedicated to the married members of the Armed Forces. Lyrics and Music by me. This is a slow paced, sad love song.

Happy new year! I admit that I haven't done much music over the holidays like I promised I would. But I do have a new song that will be uploaded soon because it's just about finished, and another song thats in the writing stages. Expect it within a week or two. The new semester has started, bringing with it a few BORING courses. I don't know how I'll survive, but we'll see. Anyways, happy new year and hopefully there will be some new music soon.

Okay, I've done some work over the last week or so. I've just uploaded a new version of "Heaven." I wasn't liking the old one, and this last week I found out why. Although I use a lot of vocal effects, my singing is one thing I pride myself on, and so the vocoder track in the old version really got under my skin. So I recorded completely new vocals to the song, and also did a little more instrumentation; I think it's a huge improvement. Also I've got another new song coming soon. I'm just not totally happy with it yet, but it should be done within the next week or so. I'm also working on a new video, a "making-of" feature which will be short and ... um ... short. And I shaved off my beard, and I hate it. So now I've got to re-grow that.

LOL I just found out this site is listed on Google ... #4 for the search "Joel Longard." This is actually the first time I've had a site listed on Google lol so its a big thing :P

"Mandy" continues to be my most popular song. It's been listened to, downloaded, and watched more times than all the others put together I think, except maybe "Blame" which people still like even though I don't lol. Oh well. I've got a couple new ideas coming for new songs; I expect to get an enormous amount of music work done during the Christmas holidays.

My two newest songs are uploaded. "Drip Drip Drop Drop:" music by Badfinger, lyrics by Micaela Walters (who also wrote the lyrics for "Removing the Mask"). "Darken My Doorstep": All by me. This song is a good instrumental that reminds me of old skool gameboys for some reason.

The last couple of days I've been working on a new song. It's a cover of a piece by a classic rock band called Badfinger. The piece has a lot of interesting orchestral parts, so I'm busy arranging parts for cello, violin, trumpet, and the like, as well as guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Expect this song to be finished in the next few weeks.

Well, with the exception of one more large project, my midterm exams and essays are complete. That means I'll once again be able to devote some time to my music. I've currently got a beat in the works, just an idea right now. I've also got a couple other songs I may want to eventually cover, so expect some new music soon.

Well, over the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I was busy at work in a new setting, Poplar Valley Studios (which is simply a new setup of mine with a little new equipment). The weekend was especially productive, ending in the creation of two complete new songs, which have recently been mastered and uploaded to the site. "Mandy" and "Removing the Mask" are probably my favorite two pieces I've created so far, and I strongly appreciate all the positive feedback ive received so far.

I've got a couple new songs coming. And so far the song "Quiet Tears" seems pretty popular.
